Children who eat peanuts at an early age can prevent peanut allergies

Children who eat peanuts at an early age can prevent peanut allergiesThe site is not Nueces Moms Group lists some of the young people who died from food allergies - many peanut allergy - which dates back to 1986. The long list is a sad reminder that allergy peanuts can cause serious and sometimes fatal allergic reaction. Parents who have a child who is allergic to peanuts are many things to keep him or her safe.

A study published online today in the New England Journal of Medicine offers some hope for parents of children who may be directed to a peanut allergy. This hope is peanuts.

For the study, an international team of researchers recruited children with egg allergy or eczema, an allergic condition that affects the skin. Both are indicators that a child is subject to a peanut allergy. The children were randomly divided into two groups.

Parents were invited in a group to ensure that their children do not eat peanuts, peanut butter or other peanut-based products to five years. The parents of the other group are invited to give their children a peanut based snack called Bamba or peanut butter three times a week to five years.

The results were surprising and dramatic. Peanut allergy developed in 1.9% of children who ate or Bamba peanut butter, against 13.7% who did not eat peanuts. One explanation for this difference is that children who ate peanut early developed what is called immune tolerance for them. Its young adapted to proteins in peanuts so that they did not react to the immune systems.

The researchers got the idea for this test from a prior study of their own. They knew that Israeli children are usually fed peanuts much earlier in the life of British children. They then compared peanut allergy among Jewish children in Israel with Jewish children living in London. Peanut allergies were 10 times higher among British children that Israeli children. In a related study, a team of Jaffe Food Allergy Institute at the Hospital at Mount Sinai Kravis Children in New York presented similar findings Sunday at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology in Houston.

They demonstrated that a portable stamp body gradually exposed to small amounts of peanut protein can be effective in relieving allergy. After using the patch for a year, people allergic to peanuts could tolerate the equivalent of four peanuts at a time. The patch Viaskin® is DBV Technologies, which funded the study.

What is this new job for parents? If a baby is prone to allergies, it can be a good idea to ask your pediatrician about the skin prick test for peanut allergy. If you add the peanuts in early childhood nutrition is feasible, the New England Journal of Medicine study suggests that such strategy can prevent a peanut allergy on the line. And even if the results are still preliminary Viaskin® if other studies confirm these results, this method could be a lifesaver.
