Neuroplasticity exercises - Brain Training to improve performance

Neuroplasticity exercises - Brain Training to improve performanceWhen was the last time you worked on your brain? One of the most exciting scientific breakthroughs in recent years is the discovery of brain plasticity.

For a long time, scientists believed that the brain stopped developing in childhood. We now know that the brain continues to make connections between neurons throughout our lives.

American neuropsychiatrist Eric Kandel won the Nobel Prize in 2000 for this discovery neuroscience, is behind most of the advances in medicine, including changing the way we handle the capacity, mental illness, stroke victims and the learning mental degeneration in diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.

More and more neuroplasticity exercises are available to improve the functioning of the brain. You feed the memory load or try a learning disability, you can easily find a brain program, exercise or game available online.

For brain injury, especially, the outlook in the old scientific beliefs about how the brain was quite dark. The lack of brain plasticity hypothesis implies that nerve cells can not form new connections and regenerate.

Therefore, if the function of the brain should be lost permanently. Kandel found that the neurons of the brain connectors can strengthen and regenerate. The brain's ability to form new neural pathways is called neuroplasticity.

Enhance neuroplasticity of the brain

You can enhance neuroplasticity of the brain by exercising the same way as you exercise your physical body. You should not wait until you suffer brain damage to exercise your brain. Brain function is affected daily by many factors, including the environment, drugs, stress, growth factors, learning and aging. Your brain needs to be packaged in the same way the state of your heart every day aerobic exercise. Conditioning regularly promotes any thought of the brain.

Here's an example. Brain exercises daily can protect against stress damage. Stress has been shown to reduce the neuroplasticity of the brain. Under stress, studies have shown that the geometric length of apical dendrites of pyramidal neurons in the hippocampus shorten. [1] When the dendrites are retracted, the surface of neurons and shrinkage, in turn, reducing therefore the number of synapses and neuronal connections.

This retraction of Dendrite has been observed in other areas of the brain under stress. The good news is that once the stress is reduced, the synapses are replaced. Depression has been known to have a similar effect. Stress and depression can not kill neurons directly, but lead to changes in the neuroplasticity of the brain.

The brain's ability to regenerate neurons is called neurogenesis. Many factors neurogenic stimulate neurogenesis. Some of these factors, such as steroid hormones are also stimulated by exercise. Therefore, brain health depends on good general fitness regime that includes physical, mental (meditation) and brain exercises. Meditation has also been shown to improve brain function in brain imaging studies.

Rules of brain training

1. Before you begin, here are some rules and precautions brain in shape.

2. Brain Training exercises regularly. Over time, the neurons are not stimulated can not reconnect. Especially after brain injury, it is important to start exercising before dying neurons neuroplasticity. If you water your garden, plants wither until hydrated. If not irrigated, over time the roots die, the plant loses its ability to regenerate. While the inability to regenerate neuronal connections increased risk of a person who has suffered brain damage which shows the importance of regular exercise the brain. Recently, neuroscientists have discovered that the brain can regenerate not only neuronal connections, but the neurons themselves.

3. Which brain exercises should you do? Some studies have shown no improvement in brain exercises. Many Brain Games were renamed "neuroplasticity exercises" or vice versa. Despite numerous references to neuroplasticity exercises on the Internet, neuroscientists are still learning and approaching this new fitness area with caution.

4. Avoid scientifically proven approaches. Scientists are trying to provide the same stimulation to the brain using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), which uses an electric coil to produce electrical current in the brain areas. This technology, and many others, are still in the experimental phase.

5. The exercises must be balanced. Repeating a million times cerebral exercise can cause excessive growth stimulation of brain cells in specific areas, squeezing the formation of new connections in other areas, warns project promoting education in Huntington Stanford.

6. Seek improvements in daily functioning. You can improve your score in games brain, but the exercise is useful these improvements should appear in the daily operation, a process called generalization.

7. Beware of exercises to increase the part of the brain that are used by 10% to 50%.

Brain Training

The improvement of neuroplasticity not involve mind games with complex algorithms compiled by a team of neuroscientists. Examples of a wide range of brain exercises that can fit into your daily life are presented.

Intellectual activities

Soaking in stimulating activities cognitively provides a brain workout. They could include online courses, debates, games. Challenge your brain to make common tasks differently. Instead of the normal trail this weekend, find a new way to explore. Making the Tibetan Buddhist meditation every week, falling into a Zen class and fold the brain waves in a different direction. If you teach psychology, change some classes with a colleague and his guest lecture on social psychology, or perhaps you have an interest in behavioral economics. You get the idea. Extend your gray matter.

Physical Activities

Physical activity has many positive effects on brain health, including brain stimulation pumping hormones. Patients with rehabilitation exercises after stroke to stimulate neurons. The specific motor activities can target certain brain regions. When stroke victims participating in walking exercises, neural connections in the brain area associated with this movement are strengthened.

Brainwave Entrainment

Binaural beats have been shown to promote convergence left and the right cerebral hemisphere. This promotes the whole brain thinking. Today, meditation music is available for select stimulate brain waves. If you are a creative person, your right brain is more developed and more likely to have a better hemispheric convergence. Many entrepreneurs can not fully develop your right brain, but rely more on the thinking of the left brain. You can control your mind and develop one of the most sought after business skills today - creative, brain thinking outside the box on the right. More and more employers are testing for the right brain thinking about the hiring process.

Brain training regimens - Treatment of Learning Disabilities

Inspiring and promising for space neuroplasticity exercises are programs for people who have parts of the brain that are not functioning normally. Up neuroplasticity exercises, cognitive behavioral therapy has been one of the few known effective treatments for learning disabilities. Aerosmith Barbara Young is a psychologist who had multiple learning difficulties as a child, including reading and writing backwards.

She tells her use of neuroplasticity exercises to overcome their learning difficulties in women who have changed his mind. Aerosmith program has helped thousands of people overcome difficulties in Canada, the United States, Australia, learning, and elsewhere.

Not enough space to write on exercises Arrowsmith program here. In his book, he discusses exercises for the following specific areas: reasoning; think, plan and solve problems; visual memory symbols models; lexical memory; memory for objects and faces; numerical sense and quantification; kinesthetic perception; spatial reasoning; Motor learning plans; and nonverbal thinking required for effective social interaction.

Based on many satisfied students, the program is expanding worldwide. Brain imaging shows that dyslexics use different parts of the brain to process information. After phonological and auditory exercises, brain activity is closer to that of a normal brain development.

Memory and attention training

Lumosity.com is the largest memory games provider and staff training. Personal trainers are available to help you design your own program. In addition to memory and attention training, boarding games problem solving, speed and flexibility. In Lumosity, 60 games are offered. To begin, create a brain training centers, making the initial performance tasks, select the areas you want to improve and further suggestions for brain training games.

These games have been applied in other areas, including traumatic brain injury. One question that has arisen is the ability of these mind games to reach the generalization, which refers to one's ability to apply new knowledge in different contexts. In other words, an improvement in scores on the games of the brain to produce an improvement in brain function in other areas of life? The best way to find out is to test the games and see for yourself.

Of neuroplasticity exercises programs

The evidence so far points to a successful performance of specific brain training, such as learning difficulties or stroke, general cognitive enhancement exercises that memory training online and attention . It is easy to see how the targeted programs offer more value. Athletes, for example, may attempt Athletic brain training.

Learn how the brain works under the expert performance capacity, psychological behavior, skills and the acquisition means, and biomechanics can greatly improve the understanding of how to facilitate the coach to athlete development, and packaging mental and physical health of the athlete.

Night sweats associated with menopause and hot flashes can last for years

Night sweats associated with menopause and hot flashes can last for yearsAccording to conventional medical wisdom, hot flashes associated with menopause fade after six to 24 months.

No, says a new study of women in menopause. The latest hot flashes, on average, for about seven years and can last 11 years or more.

The hormonal rollercoaster that comes with the end of a woman's reproductive years can trigger a variety of symptoms. Up to 80% of women going through menopause experience hot flashes.
Hot flashes, also known as vasomotor symptoms, often described as a sudden feeling of heat in the chest, face and head followed by rinsing, sweating and chills at times. When a hot flash occurs during sleep, which may be accompanied by a tempered sweat. These night sweats make it difficult to get a good night's rest.

The new estimates of the duration of these symptoms are from the Survey of women's health across the country (SWAN), a long-term women of different races and ethnicities who are in the transition to menopause. They were published last week in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

"The data from this study confirm what many women already know firsthand. Hot flashes can last for years and take a toll on the health and well-being of women," said Dr. JoAnn Manson, professor women's health in the Harvard Medical School and professor of epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Swan researchers found that some women are more likely to treat the long-term hot flashes than others. Women who had their first hot flashes before their menstrual periods had limited hot flashes for an average of nine to 10 years. If rinsing only begin after the last menstrual period, the average duration was only about three and a half years. But even on the short end of the spectrum, it's time to treat hot flashes.

Women in the study who experienced hot flashes SWAN more likely to be smokers or former smokers, overweight, stressed, depressed or anxious. Ethnicity also played a role. African American women reported increased duration of hot flashes (averaged over 11 years), while Japanese and Chinese women have hot flashes for about half the time.

"Balance of reality" study SWAN offer on hot flashes should encourage women to seek solutions. If hot flashes are really bothering you, do not put up with them. Talk to your doctor treatment options.

One of the most common treatments is hormone therapy containing estrogen, but comes with several drawbacks. "Although hormone therapy is very effective in relieving hot flashes, long-term treatment carries a higher risk of breast cancer and women in old age are at increased risk of stroke, blood clots and other problems so health is important for women to explore a full range of treatment options. - especially women who may have persistent hot flashes, "advises Dr. Manson.

Several non-hormonal drugs can also provide relief from hot flashes. These include certain types of antidepressants, some medications commonly prescribed for nerve pain, and certain medications for high blood pressure. As with any medication, it is best to opt for the lowest dose that effectively relieves their symptoms and take the least possible time.

For some women, self-help measures can help relieve hot flashes. These include deep breathing exercises when a hot flash begins; dress in layers; lower the thermostat; stay away from caffeine, alcohol, hot drinks and spicy foods; stress reduction techniques such as meditation and attention; and do their best to keep cool in general.

A free mobile application called MenoPro recently developed by Dr. Manson and her colleagues from the North American Menopause Society helps women understand their treatment options and work with their health care providers to find the best solution for them. The application is available for iPhones and iPads. More information is available at American Menopause Society.

Vegetarian diet linked to lower risk of colon cancer

Vegetarian diet linked to lower risk of colon cancerRed meat is on the table in my house. Not that we do not like to eat it - certainly will. It's just that eating red meat was associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer.

Since this type of cancer runs in the family of my husband, we send the roast and ribs, and use turkey tacos and burgers. Now, a new study suggests that we should go completely free of meat, but add more fish to further reduce our risk.

Meatless meals

For the study, researchers at Loma Linda University in California analyzed the eating habits of more than 70 000 people. Those who ate a vegetarian diet had a 22% lower risk of colorectal cancer than those who were not vegetarians. Among those who ate a vegetarian diet that includes fish, risk reduction was even higher - 43%. A vegetarian diet that includes fish and other seafood is called a pescovegetarian regime.

Note that the study showed that a vegetarian diet caused this lower risk, diet alone and the associated risk. The results were published online in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

How a vegetarian diet might work a little magic against colorectal cancer? "These eating habits may reduce insulin-like growth factor and insulin two hormones associated with colorectal cancer, compared to the traditional American diet," said Dr. Edward Giovannucci, professor of nutrition and epidemiology at the TH Chan Harvard University School of Public Health.

There are other ways to a vegetarian diet may protect against colorectal cancer:

    * It is possible that something in red meat or cooked so stimulates the growth of colorectal cancer. This goes double for processed red meat.

     * Eat more plant foods provides additional functionality such as folic acid, calcium and fiber that can protect against colorectal cancer beneficial nutrients.

And increased protection related to fish consumption? "Fish contains omega-3 fatty acids, which can be more anti-inflammatory, while a vegetarian diet has many good aspects, may be low in vitamin D Fish fatty acids is one of the few natural food sources of vitamin D, "says Dr. Giovannucci. Increased consumption of vitamin D has been linked to a lower risk of colorectal cancer.

Why is this a big deal

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. The name refers to any of colon cancer, also known as the large intestine or rectum, the last six inches of the digestive system.

There is no way to completely prevent colorectal cancer, but there is much you can do to help prevent the outside, such as maintaining a healthy weight, not smoking, drinking alcohol in moderation (if applicable), and exercise. Just change your diet should be noted as another strategy for the prevention of colorectal cancer.

Dietary Changes

Should eliminate red meat, my family? "More red meat consumption, better, especially for processed meats. It can be difficult for some people to completely cut, but I would encourage you to at least reduce the amount they eat," says Dr. Giovannucci. It not suggest more than two servings of 3 ounces of red meat per week.If you are interested in giving meat for good, making a gradual shift towards more vegetable protein (legumes, nuts, seeds, whole grains) for a period of six months. Stop building your meals around a piece of chicken, beef or pork.

Put a variety of plant protein in the dish and enjoy combinations.Since you're already a regime change, enjoy it by reducing the amount of sugar in the blood leading food than refined grains and sugary snacks and drinks. Forces too much sugar in the blood from your body to produce more insulin, the hormone that helps cells use energy, and insulin has an effect on promoting cancer growth.

Get tested

Colorectal cancer is one of the easiest cancers to treat if detected at an early stage. This is why regular screening is so important. The National Cancer Institute recommends colonoscopy for all adults aged 50 years, with monitoring every 10 years, or more often if their risk of cancer is higher. People with a parent or sibling who had colon cancer should begin testing 50 years.

Living With Christopher

Living With Christopher
Mark Haddon has written an extraordinary book that became a bestseller and won the Whitbread Book of the Year Award and the Whitbread Novel. It is said that Mark Haddon own exclaimed: "Who the hell would want to read on a fifteen year old boy with a disability" As he makes this book I did not know that it was exactly fifteen years of the child with a disability? which makes the book stand out, won awards and became a bestseller. the book is called "the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and the boy is Christopher."

Christopher is autistic savant-. He could name all the countries of the world and their capitals. He had a photographic memory and a genius in mathematics and science. Although rare intelligence could imagine, understood figuratively and tackle jokes. He did not like the places and people crammed touch. People with autism graduate show two common characteristics among people with autism and those with Savant syndrome.

Autism is one of a group of developmental disorders autism spectrum disorders. This condition is characterized mainly by a decrease of socialization, imagination and communication. Savant syndrome is characterized by a very low general intelligence, but the extraordinary generally lower intelligence mathematics, music, art and memorize.

In the story, Christopher's parents are separated. His mother decided to leave Christopher and his father, because she can no longer cope with the demands of having a child with autism. Parents who care for special children, such as people with autism may possibly have a voltage level higher compared to most parents. This is mainly because their children have special needs, unusual behaviors and capabilities compared to other children of the same age.

These children will probably have difficulty communicating, resulting in unusual reactions. An example of this is when an autistic child cries for no apparent reason and starts hitting himself. Chances are that something caused him to be angry, but can not convey what it is because he or she does not know how. Some autistic children with sensory integration problems can be either hyposensitive or hypersensitivity to touch, pressure, movement and sound.

They show some behaviors that are sometimes difficult to understand how to avoid certain foods and drinks, pinching or hitting, repetitive movements and cries. Some of them may also have a strong adhesion to certain routines and fear of new places or people. To meet the needs and respond to the behavior of these children is not easy and, therefore, can lead to a lot of stress.

Autism can severely limit a child's world. They thrive in safety and what they perceive as a threat to their security should be avoided. However, a large number of factors, situations and demands of society makes precarious and are forced to deal with these makes very anxious most of the time. Unconsciously and unintentionally, autistic children have a sense of constant anxiety to all that is new or foreign to your understanding.

As in the book, when Christopher was to go beyond the area of the city that is familiar with it, she felt physically sick and scared. Unlike most children, autistic people can not easily adapt to the new environment and situations. The process of learning to understand and accept what is unknown to them the results to a higher level of anxiety.

Despite what appears to be a difficult task to adapt and deal with autistic children, many have already studied and published on the appropriate treatment not only reduce anxiety in children, but also the stress of their parents. Some methods such as cognitive behavior modification, behavior modification techniques and environmental modification techniques have proven effective to change inappropriate behavior and improve the learning of children with autism skills.

Some conditions of different composition with autism may need additional treatment as advised by doctors. Autistic children also have manic depression due to dissatisfaction with being caught up in their self-protective behaviors may need more therapy than those mentioned above. A psychiatrist is highly recommended in this area and other medications may be prescribed.

The Christopher's story ended with him being able to overcome the challenges it has caused a lot of anxiety and the decision of the mother to return to take care of him. As in this fiction, the same can be achieved in real life, in terms of dealing with stress and anxiety for families who need to deal with the disease. With proper management, medication or treatment, stress and anxiety in parents and children with autism can be treated effectivel.

Life Advice Looking Through A Window

Living in the world today metropolitan mobile phones, mobile computers and other high-tech gadgets are not only busy but very impersonal. We make money and then invest our time and effort in making more money.

Is it over? Not usually because we are never satisfied. How many times do we convince ourselves that if only we had more money, life would be so sweet and happy? But then, after receiving a raise large enough, we realized that it was not enough and that we need more?

What Should You Do?

I have read many books on life such as Robin Sharma Monk says this and the monk said that, and they all seem to say that the money is not needed. But that. You can do without cash and lots of it? I know I could not.

So, I went to the neighborhood Rabbi and asked for advice that will help me find the right path in life.

The rabbi nodded and took me to the window. "What do you see?" He asked.

Soon, I replied, "I can see people walking to and fro and a blind man is begging for alms in the left corner."

Rabbi nodded and guided me to a big mirror. "Now look and tell me what you see?"

"I can see myself," I said man.

Rabbi smiled. "Now you can not see anyone else. The mirror and window are both made from the same raw materials: glass, but because in one of them they have to apply a thin layer of silver, when you see all that you see is a reflection of your own".

Rabbi placed his arm on my shoulder. "Compare yourself to two sheets of glass. Without the silver layer, you see the other person and feel sorry for them. When you are covered with silver, you just see for yourself."

I looked at the Rabbi and stared. "I do not understand."

Rabbi continue. "You will become a person only if it has the courage to remove the silver covering over your eyes to see again and love others." He patted my back and sent me on my way.

I have thought about what he said and came to the conclusion that he has a point. Yes. We need money and we do not have to aim to lead an existence without money; futile and will only cause us and our families a lot of heartbreak in the future.

Instead, I suggest that we should follow the advice of Rabbi gave me. When we approach life through a silver cover, all we can see is ourselves. But throw blanket, and you will be able to see and feel the others.

In life, we are allowed to and should be able to see two types of mirrors, but we must remember that we are only reflecting mirror, the window is the door to compassion, health and true wealth. In other words, seek wealth by all means, but do not let that deter you from life, people, children and the poor and needy.
